24/7: Don’t Quit Your Day Job

Soul, Stories

Taylor Amick Burgess, Sameer Abdel-Khalek and Jason Clary have each been involved in Raleigh’s rich hip-hop scene for years, each one well-respected for his own craft.

Under the name Tab-One, Burgess is one of three MCs leading the vocals for feel-good sextet Kooley High, while photographer Abdel-Khalek, as fisdj, shoots videos and album art for acts like Kooley, King Mez and Rapsody. Clary, also known as J-Sol (J-“sun” in spanish), is the creative guru behind dozens of mixtape and album covers, as well as personal logos, for acts like DJ Pr!nce and Grammy Award-winning producer 9th Wonder.

But despite their individual successes in the hip-hop and artistic community, all three rely on regular, 9-to-5 (or more) jobs to survive.
