Fighting for Balance

Justice, Stories

D’Juan “Dirty South” Owens has been a professional MMA Fighter since 2011. After serving in the United States Marine Core, the Mississippi native moved to Durham, NC where he lives with his wife and two daughters.

Owens’ life revolves around professional fighting. Although he only has a handful of fights a year, he trains hard everyday. Owens spars at LA Boxing in Durham and practices Jiu Jitsu at Triangle Jiu Jitsu, splitting his time between both gyms. As an amateur, the 27-year-old was ranked second in the Carolinas by mmaforreal.com. He currently is 9-4 as a professional and fights in the featherweight class. Owens studies footage on a daily basis in an attempt to perfect his craft and is seemingly unafraid of injury.

Life outside the cage largely consists of family time for Owens. Balancing life at home with life in the gym is difficult and many fighters are unable to make it work with such ease. Fighting for Balance chronicles a day in the life of the fearless fighter as he trains for his next fight in January while maintaining his roles as father and husband.
